On Wednesday morning, a joint task force located a poppy field in the remote hills of Bandarban and destroyed it.
According to army sources, Warrant Officer Haider Ali, commander of Ruma Bazar army camp, and Sergeant Mohammad Rafique led a troop of 14 soldiers on a mission around dawn.
The patrol team roamed through the hills for several hours before they discovered the site of the poppy farm with the help of two locals. They were reinforced by 14 Ansar members and raided the farm.
The farm's owner was identified as Mongme, but he managed to get away.
Warrant Officer Haider Ali said two acres of land had been converted to farm poppy. After consulting with his zone commander, he directed his troops to burn down the farm.
Poppy is a plant which is the primary source of many drugs like opium, morphine, and heroin.
