The theme of this year’s Amar Ekushey Book Fair is ”Bahanno to Ekattor”—which translates to ‘52 to ’71—and commemorates the country’s history from the language movement to the 1971 Liberation War.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Habibullah Siraji, director general (DG) of Bangla Academy said: “The book fair will showcase historical and memorable events from 1952 to 1971. The stalls and book stores will be decorated according to the theme.

Meanwhile, KM Khalid Babu, state minister for cultural affairs said: “I am not satisfied with the overall management of the book fair. We did not get enough time to make the event flawless.

The state minister added that there is no alternative to hard work for completing preparations for the Amar Ekushey Book Fair.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the fair, which is considered the country's largest book festival, on February 1.

According to Bangla Academy sources, a total of 460 publishing houses and other entities participated in the fair in 2018; 450 in 2017; 401 in 2016; and 353 in 2015.
