Physicians of a private clinic, which has been running illegally in Krishtapur area of Mymensingh city, have been accused of negligence over the death of a newborn baby.

The body of the newborn was handed over to the parents after a caesarean operation, conducted without running any tests, reports UNB.

“I admitted my wife to Porosh Private Clinic around 11:30pm on Sunday after she had gone into labour,” said Harun-or-Rashid, a resident of Kolyanpur village in Sadar Upazila.

"The doctors performed a caesarean operation without running any medical tests and handed us the body of our newborn after half an hour," he said. "There were several marks of injury on the baby’s body."

Clinic Director Rezaul Karim Murad claimed that the baby had died in the womb two days ago. "There was no negligence on our part," he said.

Police detained hospital owners Murad, Arifur Rahman and Mehedi Hasan after the baby's family lodged a complaint, said Monsurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali model police station.

Mymensingh Civil Surgeon Dr AKM Abdur Rouf said the clinic has no registration. "We will investigate the matter to see whether there was any negligence by the physicians of the clinic, and take action accordingly."
