2 alleged yaba traders gunned down by Cox's Bazar BGB

BGB claims they were trying to cross to Bangladesh with a large number of yaba by crossing the Naf River

Two alleged yaba traders have been shot dead by BGB while the yaba traders were trying to cross over to Bangladesh by swimming the Naf River.

The incident occurred on Friday night, confirmed Teknaf 2 BGB Commander Lt Col Md Asaduzzaman Chowdhury. 

Asaduzzaman said: "Two yaba traders tried to enter Bangladesh through the Anwar Project point under Hinla union in Teknaf by swimming across the Naf River, on Friday night.  At that time, the BGB members stationed at the border fired shots at them.

"Later upon investigating, two bullet-ridden bodies were found near the spot," he said. "We notified the police immediately."

Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge Pradip Kumar Das told the Dhaka Tribune: "After being notified, police went and recovered two bullet-ridden bodies from beside Mainuddin Memorial College in Hinla union on Saturday. 50,000 pieces of yaba were found with the bodies."

However, the identities of the deceased are yet to be disclosed. "Locals have claimed they were Myanmar citizens living in the local Rohingya camps," Pradip added.
