Angry locals set fire to the house of a kidnapper, who had abducted and then murdered a class three student, after failing to extort ransom in the Monirampur upazila under the Jessore district.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 5pm, after the victim Tarif Hossain’s body had been brought back home after the autopsy.
The convicted abductor Billal was gunned down by the police on Tuesday night during analleged gunfight.
Monirampur Fire Service arrived on sight and doused the fire.Monirampur police station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam and Inspector (Investigation) SM Enamul Haquealso visited the scene and helped calm the situation.
Tarif’s father Siddiqur Rahman had filed a case in connection to his child’s murder, accusing unknown individuals.
According to Inspector Enamul, Billal had abducted Tarifon Sunday from the Fedaipur area of the upazila and demanded a ransom of Tk5 lakh and later murdered the child.
Later on Tuesday night, in a drive the police arrested Billal and recovered Tarif’s body, while killing Billal in a gunfight, he added.
