Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; after undertaking her responsibilities as prime minister for the fourth time.
She paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths on his grave, in Tungipara of Gopalganj, around 12:30pm on Wednesday.
The prime minister stood in solemn silence beside Bangabandhu's grave for some time after paying her respects. As she did so, a smartly turned out contingent, drawn from the three forces, gave her a guard of honour.
Sheikh Hasina, alongside her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, offered special prayers for the eternal peace of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
Later, accompanied by her cabinet colleagues and senior Awami League leaders, Hasina placed another wreath at Bangabandhu's shrine.
She also joined a milad and doa mahfil held at Bangabandhu's Mausoleum.
Advisors to the prime minister, Awami League members of parliament and central leaders, the cabinet secretary, secretaries of the prime minister, plus senior civil and military officials were also present at the occasion.
The newly-formed cabinet is also scheduled to pay its respects to Bangabandhu in Tungipara on Wednesday.
The prime minister is set to leave via a helicopter in the afternoon.
