Five people, including four madrasah students and a cook, received burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in Kushtia.
The incident occurred at Mumtaz Ul Ulum Madrasah in Kushtia town’s Thanapara around 9pm on Friday.
The injured are students Tanvir, 13, Nayeem, 15, Muhibul, 16, and Imran, 15, while Fulbaas, 55, is the cook of the institute. All of them have been taken to Kushtia General Hospital for treatment.
Arifuzzaman, principal of the residential madrasah, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The cook was trying to ignite the stove in the kitchen, while the gas cylinder was switched on for a long time. The entire room caught fire when he lit up a match.”
He said some students were also present in the room with the cook.
Dr Rakibul Hossain, on-duty doctor at Kushtia General Hospital, said: “The percentage of burns is lower than 10, therefore, their condition is not critical. However, caution must be exercised regarding such matters.”
