Three police officers have been injured in an attack on police cars allegedly by BNP and Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) activists in Tangail.
The incident occurred around 12:30am, on Wednesday, in the Boro Chowna area of Sakhipur upazila.
The injured are Sub-Inspector (SI) Doyal, Sub-Inspector (SI) Foyez, and Constable Shafiq.
Police claimed several crude bombs were detonated during the attack.
Law enforcement shot 19 rounds of bullets in the attack and detained five people, in connection to the attack, for questioning.
Commenting on the matter, Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amir Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: “On December 16, a case was filed for an attack on a Chhatra League leader. When we went to arrest the accused in the case, the KSJL-BNP activists—led by Lal Miah chairman— blocked the roads and detonated a few crude bombs.
“They also attacked the police cars and vandalized them, injuring three police officers. Later police rushed to the site and shot 19 rounds of bullets.”
He said the injured policemen were taken to Upazila Health Complex. Out of the three injured, one was provided first aid and the other two were admitted to the hospital.
Police have held five people in connection to the attack and are preparing to file a case against them, the OC added.
