Police have accused a madrasa teacher of torturing a 15-year-old boy to death.
According to Feni model police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kalam Azad, Maulana Karim of Halima Sadia Madrasa in the district’s Lalpol was shown arrested in the unnatural death case of Zahirul Islam Shakib.
Shakib's body had bruises on his neck and waist, said doctor Shahab Uddin Ritu of Feni Sadar Hospital, where the body was sent for autopsy.
A resident of East Ukilpara neighbourhood in Feni town, Shakib had only started attending classes at the madrasa 10 days ago, according to his uncles Mizanur Rahman and Shamsul Alam.
“My nephew (Shakib) always complained about the intensity of corporal punishment and lack of proper meals at the madrasa,” Mizanur claimed.
Maulana Karim, however, denied the accusation levelled against him and claimed Shakib had committed suicide.
