A Jubo League leader has been killed in a clash between two rival groups in Natore. The two groups were reportedly fighting to establish supremacy in the area.

The incident occurred in front of the North Bengal Sugar Mill in Lalpur upazila around 11am Wednesday.

Two others were injured in the clash.

The deceased has been identified as local Jubo League leader Jaharul Islam, 35, while the injured are Tuhin and Pantho.

Lalpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam Jewel confirmed the matter, adding that the injured had been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

According to locals, eyewitnesses, and police, men belonging to Mostaque group and Jaharul group – both followers of local MP Abul Kalam Azad – had an internal clash a month ago, resulting in four people getting injured.

On Wednesday, Jaharul and two of his associates were traveling by bike past the main gate of the sugar mill when, as a continuation of the previous skirmish, a number of Mostaque group thugs attacked them with sharp weapons. A minor skirmish ensued, resulting in Jaharul, Tuhin, and Pantho getting severely injured.

After their attackers left the area, locals took the injured to the hospital, where Jaharul died.

A report over the incident was yet to be submitted at the time of filing this report.
