A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with police in Chuadanga.
The incident occurred in Ujjalpur Field of Chuadanga Sadar Uspazila in the early hours of Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased- Pappu Hossain, 30, was a listed "drug trader" and son of Bazlur Rahman of Akanda Baria village in the upazila.
Sadar police station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain Khan said the drug traders opened fire at them during their regular patrol in the area around 2:30am, forcing them to retaliate, and triggering the “gunfight.”
Later, police found Pappu with bullet wounds and took him to Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Law enforcers recovered one shutter-gun, two bullets, four hand bombs and a sack of phensedyl from the spot.
The OC said Pappu was wanted in six cases, including that of drugs.
