Chittagong jailer held with Tk44 lakh and narcotics

He was heading to his village home from Chittagong to Mymensingh

A jailer of the Chittagong Central Jail was arrested with a huge amount of cash and narcotics substances from a Mymensingh-bound Bijoy Express Train in the Bhairab area of the Kishoreganj district on Friday.  

Cash amounting to Tk44 lakh, Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) amounting to Tk2.50 crore, Tk1.30crore in cheques, five cheque books of different banks, a DSLR camera and 12 bottles of phensedyl were recovered from the possession of the jailor identified as Sohel Rana Biswas. 

He was heading to his village home from Chittagong to Mymensingh. 

"Tipped-off, a team of police took position at the Bhairab rail station at 12:15pm on Friday. As soon as Bijoy Express Train stopped at the station at 12:40pm, we frisked the jailor and recovered the cash and narcotics from his possession," said Abdul Majid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bhairab Railway Police Station.

After he arrested the person, he identified himself as the jailor of Chittagong Central Jail. Later, the police confirmed that he is Sohel Rana Biswas and a jailor of Chittagong Central Jail. 

Process is underway to lodge two separate cases against the jailor under Money Laundering Prevention Act and Narcotics Control Act. 

Sohel Rana Biswas joined the Chittagong Central Jail as a jailor on December 27, 2017. Previously, he was a jailor of Narsingdi jail for a year.
