Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sohel Rana and his two associates have been detained, by locals and fishermen, for trying to take more ilish from Padma River fishermen—in Munshiganj.
The incident occurred near the Padma River, in Shamurbari of Louhajang upazila, around 10am on Friday.
The detainees – ASI Sohel; Md Mohon, 24; and Liton Sheikh, 22 – were handed over to the Louhajang police station.
Louhajang police station Officer-in-Charge Liakat Ali told the Dhaka Tribune: "Locals and fishermen detained the ASI when he tried to force them to give him ilish—and called the police. After we arrived on the spot, they handed him over to us. They also detained his two associates."
He said: "The fishermen alleged ASI Sohel also took ilish and money from them on Thursday. Later, they came to know he was not from the Louhajang police station. When he tried to take ilish from them again, on Friday, they detained the ASI."
Srinagar and Louhajang circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Maksuda Lima said: "We found that the allegations are true. The regular process of filing a case is underway."
"ASI Sohel was working for the Munshiganj police. He was transferred under DMP a few days ago."
