Mayor Miru excluded from scrutinised FF list

Update : 03 Mar 2017, 08:47 PM
The name of Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, the main accused in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul murder case, has been excluded from the updated list freedom fighters. “Mayor Miru’s name was dropped from the scrutinised list of freedom fighters of the upazila after we found disparity in the evidence of his age certificate,” Shahjadpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alimul Razib told the Dhaka Tribune on Thursday night. “The scrutinised list was sent to Jatiya Muktijoddha Council on February 25, before the High Court put a stay order on the scrutiny process. “The names of 34 others including Miru’s elder brother Hamidul Haque Hiru were excluded due to mismatch of their certificates and the information provided by fellow fighters,” the UNO added. According to a circular of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry published last year, a person who was below the age of 13 during the 1971 Liberation War would not be certified as a freedom fighter. Miru, as per his national identity card, was born in 1959 and was only 12-year-old during the war. Besides, he could not place any valid document, to prove that he was a freedom fighter, within the deadline. He was in jail in connection with the murder. Miru, the main accused, was arrested from Dhaka on February 5. He was placed on remanded for several times.
