House owner Dr Ashikur Rahman Shanto says the attack took place when he was holding a meeting with his supporters

Update : 04 Oct 2018, 06:01 PM

A group of unidentified men have attacked the house of Dr Ashikur Rahman Shanto – vying for an Awami League (AL) Bhola 2 constituency nomination.

Dr Ashikur Rahman is the second son of Naziur Rahman Manju, founder of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP),  a splinter faction of the original Jatiya Party (JaPa).

The attack was carried out around 3:30pm on Thursday.

“A group of people jumped on my supporters at home, injuring 10-15 of them. They also vandalized 8-10 motorcycles during the attack,” Shanto said.

He said they were supposed to hold a meeting on forming committees in polling centres at 4pm.

Dr Ashikur blamed supporters of Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and incumbent MP of the constituency Ali Azam Mukul for carrying out the attack.

The Dhaka Tribune reached out to Bhola police but they are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
