Awami League (AL) activists have allegedly established their road march and mass rally stage by demolishing part of Shaheed Minar's boundary wall in Feni.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon.
The district leaders of BNP and other associate organizations, residing in Dhaka, have anonymously made the allegations to our Dhaka Tribune correspondent.
Denying all allegations, Feni Municipality Mayor Al-Hajj Alauddin told the Dhaka Tribune: "Shaheed Minar's southwest corner wall was demolished on Wednesday as it was damaged. A new wall will be constructed in the same place."
The decision to tear down the wall was taken at a municipal council meeting based on a report by the Municipal Engineering Department saying the damaged boundary wall could cause a mishap by collapsing at any moment.
Several BNP district leaders, on their mobile phones, have anonymously alleged Awami League's road march and rally stage for election was built on Thursday morning after tearing down the wall on Wednesday night.
The ruling party's local lawmakers and other leaders also visited the stage and the issue has drawn a lot of criticism from people, said the BNP leaders.
Commenting on the matter, Awami League district General Secretary, MP Nizam Hazari, told the Dhaka Tribune: "BNP-Jamaat has been spreading false propaganda because the road march and rally will attract thousands of people in Feni."
The joint committee of district leaders and activists of Awami League and associate organizations for a successful campaign has heard the news of thousands of people assembling for the rally.
Lawmaker Hazari said: "Activists of BNP-Jamaat dismantled the Shaheed Minar in Feni six years ago. We have reconstructed the Minar afterwards and respected it. The people who do not believe in the spirit of Shaheed Minar are spreading this propaganda."
He said Feni's public will reply to this propaganda on the next election ballot.
MP Nizam Hazari said: "I went to inspect the construction of the rally stage on Thursday evening. The activists there informed me the stage is being built near the Shaheed Minar with the municipality authority's permission."
Awami League will conduct an electoral road march from Dhaka to Chittagong-Cox's Bazar as part of their central program on Saturday, September 22.
Awami League district leaders have arranged to hold an afternoon public meeting for the road march in the Shaheed Minar courtyard.
The meeting chief guest will be Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, who is slated to give a speech.
Meanwhile, a joint session was held by the district leaders of Awami League and associate organizations, to make the rally a success.
Feni 2 Constituency Lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari, Awami League Feni unit Vice President Advocate Akramuzzaman, Feni Municipality Mayor Haji Alauddin, Feni Association President Sheikh Abdullah of Dhaka, along with many other leaders and activists were present at the joint session.
