Sholakia Khatib supports Hefazat’s SC ‘idol’ removal demand

Update : 02 Mar 2017, 12:24 AM
Masuud, also the chairman of Bangladesh Jamiatul Ulama, said: “Opposing the demand of the majority people of Bangladesh by not removing the ‘idol’ from the highest court of the country is not a good sign.” He said this in a press release on Wednesday. He also said: “Placing an idol in front of the highest court of the country does not portray the secular faith of the nation. Their intention is not good. This decision will not be good for peaceful people.” “The presence of a Greek goddess idol in front of the court will destroy the secular faith. A rightful mind cannot take the decision of keeping the idol. This is happening just to make a certain group of people happy or to represent the chief justice’s ideology.” he added. Earlier, on February 11, the radical Islamist platform Hefazat-e-Islam demanded the immediate removal of the sculpture, claiming it to be a Greek idol. Leaders of the Qawmi madrasa-based group that eyes Shariah Law in the country made the demand following a press conference at the Chittagong Press Club on February 11.
