Rohingya woman held in Joypurhat

Upon seeing the police, Sohena's husband and mother-in-law fled the scene

Police detained a Rohingya woman, along with four children, in Joypurhat.

The woman- Sohena- and the children were detained from the Paikordaria area of Dogachhi union, in the Joypurhat sadar upazila, on Monday morning.

Joypurhat sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Police said: "A broker named Shahidul, from Sylhet's Jaflong area, brought Sohena and some others to Paikordaria of Dogachhi, in the Joypurhat border areas, from Chittagong's Dastagir camp—saying that he would find them work in India.

Based on information, police came and detained them. Upon seeing the police, Shahidul – along with Sohena's husband and mother-in-law – fled the scene."

OC Sirajul said: "We have started the procedure of returning the detainees to their camp."
