International Women Festival held in Sylhet

The festival focused on introducing a global platform to women and youth in Sylhet.

The British Council, South Bank Center and Jaago Foundation jointly organized an international festival in Sylhet focusing on the achievements and problems of women in Sylhet region.

British Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Kanbar Hossain inaugurated this festival around noon at Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Sports Complex on Thursday around noon.

British Council of Bangladesh, Deputy Country Director Andrew Newton, Founder of Jaago Foundation Korvi Rakshand and other officials of British Council of Bangladesh were also present. 

The Festival titled 'Wow Dhaka: Sylhet chapter' aimed at introducing an international platform to encourage women and youth in Sylhet division.

Among others, Shornolata Roy of Sylhet Women Chambers of Commerce and Industries and Professor Amina Parvin of Social Welfare Department of Shahjalal Science and Technology University was present as the speakers to the panel discussions.

Later, six women shared their experiences with their stories, achievements, and challenges during the ‘Wow bytes’ session.

The cultural performances included a traditional dance performed by a Manipuri dance team, theatre performed by the Sylhet's theatrical team followed by the music of the ‘Shikor’ band of Sylhet.

The community leaders of Sylhet, activists, entrepreneurs, students, media personalities and other representatives were present to discuss social, cultural and traditional challenges of the country.
