A suspected drug dealer has been killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Feni.
The incident occurred in the Sultanpur area of Dharmapur union under Sadar upazila around 10:15pm . The deceased has been identified as Shumon alias Lal Shumon, 37.
According to RAB 7 Company Commander Shafayat Jamil, his team conducted a raid in the area after receiving a tipoff. When the law enforcement officials arrived, the criminals began shooting at them. Shumon was shot when RAB returned fire.
“After the gunfight, we took Shumon to Feni Sadar Hospital, where he was declared dead by the attending doctor. He is a listed criminal and was wanted in connection with 6-7 cases,” Shafayat said.
“Shumon is listed by the Home Ministry as a notorious drug dealer,” he added.
An imported pistol and revolver, a improvised firearm, and around 4,000 yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
