At least six people have been killed and many others injured in separate road accidents across Bangladesh.

The incidents took place in Brahmanbaria, Gaibandha, Narsingdi and Gazipur on Wednesday.

In Brahmanbaria, three people died and 15 others injured when a bus lost control and fell into a roadside water body in Boishamora area of Sarail upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.

The incident took place around 2pm when the passenger vehicle was trying to overtake another bus, passengers and police said.

The injured were rescued and admitted to different hospitals.

In Gaibandha, a 50-year-old woman died after being run over by a battery-run auto-rickshaw near Sadullahpur Public Library on the Gaibandha-Sadullahpur Road in the morning.

Sadullahpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Borshan Uddin said the auto-rickshaw had fled the scene right after running over the woman, and they were trying to catch the driver of the vehicle.

In Narsingdi, two motorcyclists were killed, one of them on the spot, after being run over by a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Shibpur’s Kararchar area on Wednesday afternoon.

Itakhola highway police outpost’s In-charge Hafizur Rahman said the incident took place when the Ena Paribahan bus was trying to overtake another bus.

He added that the bus was impounded and preparations were underway to file a case over the incident.

In Gazipur, at least 25 people were injured when a bus lost control and overturned after falling into a roadside ditch in Sreepur’s Joina Bazar area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway around 11am.

Maona highway police OC Delwar Hossain said the injured, two of them in critical condition, were taken to different hospitals and clinics.
