Journalists formed a human chain and held a rally in Jessore town on Saturday, protesting the implicating of journalist leader Anubrata Saha Mithun in a "false extortion" case.
When addressing the protest in front of the town’s press club, they alleged that television channel SA TV filed the “false extortion” case only to harass Mithun, a former employee of the channel, which impeded freedom of the press.
The TV channel did not pay his salary arrears of five months, they further alleged, demanding payment of the arrears and withdrawal of the case.
Pesident of Journalists’ Union Jessore Nur Islam and General Secretary M Aiyub were present, among others.
