A container truck ran over a college student Gazipur city's Barabari area on Saturday, killing her on the spot.
Farhana Alam Mim, 21, was run over on the Dhaka – Mymensingh Highway around 12:30pm.
Police say they have let the driver go.
People later torched the vehicle and blocked the highway to protest. Students from Mim's school were also protesting on the highway. They also blocked a Fire Service vehicle from reaching the spot.
Mim was a class 11 student of Safiuddin Sarkar Academy in Tongi. She lived with her family in the nearby Bogartek area.
Eyewitnesses said locals took the girl to Tongi Government Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
Police said the injured truck driver was treated at Tairunnesa Medical College Hospital and let go.
