Border Guard Bangladesh officers check the luggage of passengers seeking to cross the border at Hili Dhaka TribuneAt the check post, the female BGB members are assigned with the task to check the travellers’ passports, register their names and check their bags. Asked about their thoughts on serving in the BGB, they said that they were proud to be serving the nation and hope to help curb the incidents of trafficking of women, children and drugs. BGB Hili check post In-charge Commander Subedar Mahbub Alam said that a group of 13 female BGB members had arrived in Hili on February 21, and started their service on February 22. Mahbub said that it was crucial to have brought the female BGB members on board as it was otherwise not possible for the male BGB members to check the women smugglers and traffickers thoroughly. He said that now with the female members in their team, they would be able to protect the country's border against smuggling and trafficking more efficiently. He, however, said that the female BGB members would not be assigned at night due to safety reasons. “They will work in two shifts during the day,” he added.
