A minor girl was reportedly raped by her brother-in-law in Rajshahi’s Puthia upazila.
Soon after the incident, locals caught Lalchand Mia, 40, and handed him over to police after roughing him up.
Quoting locals, Golam Mostofa, officer-in-charge of Puthia police station said Lalchand took the girl to a sugarcane garden in Jamira village on Monday afternoon and forcibly violated her.
Hearing the screaming, locals rushed to the scene and rescued the girl, and sent her to the one-stop crisis centre at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The victim's mother filed a case following the incident.
The accused was produced before the court and he was sent to jail, the OC added.
