A Moulvibazar court has sent Rajnagar police station Assistant Sub Inspector Abu Taher, 32, to jail—in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

Judge Begum Shamima Afroz, of the Moulvibazar Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, rejected Taher’s bail plea and sent him to jail on Tuesday—confirmed court inspector Md Abdul Hi Chowdhury.

According to case documents, a woman named Nasima Akter filed a case against Abu Taher on January 31, 2017.

Advocate Md Masuk Mia, who is representing the plaintiff in the case, told the correspondent: “The tribunal took cognizance of the case and issued an arrest warrant against Taher on November 8 that same year. He has been on the run since then.

“Taher appeared before the court on Tuesday and plead for bail, but the court rejected his plea and ordered that he be sent to jail.”

Abu Taher is a native of Chailtakandi Village in Narsingdi.
