Abdur Rahman, who was the prime suspect in writer and publisher Shahzahan Bachchu’s murder, has been killed in a so-called gunfight with the police in Munshiganj.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, District Intelligence Officer Md Nazrul Islam added that Abdur was earlier arrested by the police, in Gazipur, on June 24.
Nazrul Islam told the correspondent: “Police took the suspect, who is the mastermind behind Bachchu’s murder, with them in a raid to his rented apartment in Khasmohol Balur Char area around 1am—to detain his cohorts hiding there.
“Sensing a police presence, Abdur’s cohorts began firing on the law enforcers. Abdur Rahman was killed in the ensuing gunfight.”
Three policemen- ASIs Delwar Hossain, Hassan, and Constable Mosharraf, were injured in the incident.
According to police sources, a group of militants had rented the apartment in the Khasmohol Balur Char area of the city around two months ago.
Police seized hand grenades, firearms, and a motorbike during the raid.
