Army chief pays respect to Bangabandhu

He laid floral wreaths on the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Newly appointed Bangladesh Army Chief Aziz Ahmed visited Tunigpara in Gopalganj to pay his respects at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum.

He laid floral wreaths on the dais of the mausoleum after reaching Tungipara at around 10am on Wednesday. Later, a smartly turned out contingent of armed guards gave a Guard of Honour to the chief. 

Aziz Ahmed also prayed for Bangabandhu and the others who were martyred on August 15, 1975. Afterwards, he wrote his comments in the observation book safeguarded in the mausoleum complex.

GOC of 55 Infantry Division Md Nayeem Ashfaque Chowdhury, Brig Gen Salah Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of district Awami League Mahabub Ali Khan, Upazila Chairman of Tungipara Gazi Golam Mostofa, Vice-President of upazila Awami League Md Ilias Hossain, Municipality Mayor Sheikh Ahmed Hossain Mirza, and other military and non-military officials were present at the occasion.

In the observation book, the army chief mentioned: "I am proud of having the chance to pay my respects at the grave of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The nation will always remember with gratitude the role Bangabandhu played during the Liberation War of 1971."
