Seven people have been killed and several others injured in separate road mishaps around the country.
The incidents took place Habiganj, Natore, Brahmanbaria, Madaripur, Comilla and Gazipur districts on Monday and Tuesday.
Since June 1, more than 130 people were killed and scores injured in separate road accidents across the country.
Of them, over 40 died in the past four days during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
In Habiganj, two youths were killed after a bus crashed into their motorcycle head-on on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Janatar Bazar area of Nabiganj upazila in the morning.
They were identified as Nur Islam, 26, and Shahabul Islam, 20.
Sherpur highway police Assistant Sub-Inspector Gias Uddin said the duo had died on the spot when the bus hit their motorcycle. Their bodies were recovered later.
In Natore, a 27-year-old man named Abdur Razzak was killed in a road mishap at Ponditgram area of Sadar upazila around noon, reports UNB.
Police said he fell down on the road and was critically injured after his motorcycle hit a rickshaw.
Duty doctors at Natore Sadar Hospital declared dead after locals rushed him there.
The body was later sent to the morgue for autopsy.
In Brahmanbaria, a man was killed and at least five others injured when a private car and a pickup truck collided head-on on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Shahbajpur area of Sarail upazila Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as the Dhaka-bound car’s driver Md Shahin, 40. He had died on the spot after the collision, police and locals said.
Khatihata highway police, with the locals’ assistance, later recovered the body, and rescued the injured and sent them to different hospitals.
However, four of the injured, all of them passengers of the car and with critical injuries, were later sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital to Dhaka for better treatment.
In Madaripur, a bus driver were killed and at least 15 others injured when the vehicle crashed into a roadside tree after the driver lost control on the Dhaka-Barisal Highway in Bhanga Bridge area in the early hours of Tuesday.
Rabiul Bepari, 35, died on the spot when the Barisal-bound Eagle Paribahan bus crashed into the tree and overturned, local and police said.
Madaripur’s Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam Prasad Pathak said police rescued the victims from the scene and sent them to different hospitals.
Of the injured, nine who were in critical conditions were admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital and six others to hospitals in Faridpur and Barisal.
In Comilla, the motorcade of senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain was hit by a bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, killing one and injuring 12 others.
The accident took place in Daudkandi’s Amirabad area on Tuesday afternoon when a Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus hit the convoy at a U-turn, Daudkandi highway police Sub-inspector Abdun Nur said.
All of the victims were in the motorcade. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s Daudkandi unit leader Jewel Pradhan Raihan, 20, was killed on the spot.
BNP Standing Committee Member Mosharraf was taken to a local hospital with two others. The other eight injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Gazipur, a 68-year-old man name Ganesh Chandra Barman was killed after being run over by a speeding car on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Targachh area around 9:30pm on Monday.
Naojor highway police Inspector Ohiduzzaman said Ganesh was crossing the road when he was hit by the car and killed on the spot.
Police recovered the body later and sent it to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
