Road accidents: 9 dead in 6 districts

Nine people have been killed in separate road accidents in Habiganj, Tangail, Bogra, Chittagong, Narayanganj and Chapainawabganj districts.

In Habiganj, Sujit Boshak, 35, has been killed in a motorcycle accident. 

The incident occurred at 11am on Saturday, in the Bahubal Upazila of Habiganj district.

Confirming the incident, Bahubal model police station Officer-in-Charge Md Masuk Ali said: “Sujit was travelling from Srimangal to Mirpur viaca motorcycle. A pick-up van travelling in the opposite direction crashed into his bike, leaving him dead on the spot.”

The body of the deceased was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

In Tangail, college student Lutfar Mia, 19, has been killed in a road accident.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, in the Nagarpur Upazila of Tangail district.

Nagarpur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) MA Alamgir Hossain said: “Lutfar was run over by a truck. He died on the spot. The police got news of traffic congestion in the area due to the body lying on the road. We arrived at the scene and recovered his body.”

The SI also said a case has been filed in this regard.

In Bogra, a microbus and a CNG auto-rickshaw collided, leaving one dead and four injured.

The incident occurred on the Bogra-Gabtoli highway on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Jobbar, 45. His wife Nurun Nahar, son Nahid, another passenger named Rita, and the CNG driver were injured in the incident. 

The injured were admitted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

The police have seized both the CNG and the microbus.

In Chapainawabganj, two people died in two separate road accidents.

The incidents occurred in the Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj on Saturday.

Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge Mahtab Ali said: “A woman was caught between a motorcycle and a covered van. She died on the spot.

“The identity of the woman could not be ascertained immediately. We have seized the van, but the driver and the motorcyclist both got away.”

The body of the deceased has been sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.

In a separate incident, in the Sujapur area of Shibganj, a child named Sumaiya, 6, died when she was hit by a tractor.

Sumaiya was the daughter of Alkesh Ali of Kaliganj village under Binodpur union.

In Chittagong, two people were killed and seven others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus in Keranihat area under Satkania upazila, reports UNB.

The deceased are Abdur Razzak, 35 and Nasrin Sultana, 28.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway police station, said a Cox's Bazar-bound bus of “Saint Martin Paribahan” collided with the Chittagong-bound microbus, leaving two people dead on the spot and seven others injured.

In Narayanganj, an auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed on the spot as a bus knocked down their auto-rickshaw at Dhakeshwari area of Sidhirganj in the early hour of the day, reports UNB.

The deceased are Monir Hossain, 30, auto-rickshaw driver and son of Ratan Mia of Narshingdi and Mabub Alam, 29, son of Chan Mia of Damurda area of Shariatpur.

Sub-Inspector of Sidhirganj police station Nasir Ahmed said the accident occurred around 4:30am.
