Wild elephant kills woman in Bandarban

The victim, a widow named Sakera Begum Pakhi, lost her life to a wild elephant in a remote hilly area on Saturday night

A woman has been killed in a wild elephant attack in the Lama Upazila of Bandarban. 

The victim, a widow named Sakera Begum Pakhi, lost her life to a wild elephant in a remote hilly area under Fasiakhali Union on Saturday night.

Sakera left home around 11pm to answer the call of nature. A wild elephant then attacked her and crushed her to death.

Union Parishad Chairman Md Jaker Hossain Majumder confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, saying that the victim’s body was tracked down with the help of local police on Sunday morning, and later handed over to the victim’s relatives.

The UP chairman also added that the parishad will offer support to the victim’s family. 

Twelve years ago, Sakera’s husband Ashu Ali also lost his life to a wild elephant in the same area.
