A fire broke out at Benapole land port terminal around 4am on Sunday, Benapole Port Manager Aminul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “We are not sure about how the fire originated. The fire broke out at the west truck terminal.”
Benapole Fire Service Unit chief Touhidur Rahman said: “Two units of firefighters were sent to the spot soon after we received a phone call about the incident.
“After an hour of frantic effort, we managed to bring 80% of the fire under control. It will take some time to douse the blaze completely.”
When asked about the origin of the fire, he said: “The fire could have started from a mosquito coil.
“The area where the fire started does not have electric short circuit. We are yet to find out the exact cause of the fire.”
However, the loss incurred in the fire is yet to be ascertained.
