Two people were crushed to death under the wheels of a train in separate incidents in Kalihati upazila of Tangail in the early hours of Friday.
One of them was Sumon Mia of Mirzapur upazila and the other deceased is yet to be identified, said Bangabandhu Bridge East police station OC Mosharraf Hossain confirming the incidents.
Rezaul Karim, booking master of Bangabandhu Bridge East Railway Station, said an unidentified man in his 30s was run over by Dhaka-bound Ekata Express from Dinajpur, while crossing the railway track in Beramaroa area near the station around 5am. He died on the spot.
Meanwhile, Rezaul said, Sumon was killed when he was hit by the same train in Kalihati’s Saratoil area, one kilometre away from the station, around 15 minutes later.
Sumon’s body was later handed over to his family.
The body of the unidentified deceased was taken to Dhaka by railway police for identification.
