Some 9,020 people were detained on charges of drug peddling over a span of just 11 days since May 18, according to a statement by police.
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) also recovered drugs worth around Tk41.57 crore, and cars, microbuses, motorcycles and weapons used by drug dealers.
The statement did not mention the number of people killed in “gunfights” with security forces during the anti-narcotics drives.
“We do not provide information on the number of people killed in gunfights. Only the units concerned can tell you the figure,” Assistant Inspector General (media) Soheli Ferdous told the Dhaka Tribune.
However, according to reports, at least 107 people were killed in the countrywide drives until Tuesday.
Another statement released by RAB says the elite force conducted 701 anti-drug drives across the country since May 4. They arrested 733 people, and 24 others died in “shootouts” with RAB personnel.
