The Election Commission has declared legal the nomination of Awami League candidate for Bagerhat 3 by-polls Habibun Nahar, the wife of newly elected Khulna Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khaleque.
Returning Officer Md Nuruzzaman Talukder made the announcement on Sunday.
After the announcement, there is no bar for Habibun Nahar to be elected unopposed.
The last date for withdrawing a nomination is June 3. If she does not cancel her candidacy by then, she will be declared the MP for the constituency the next day.
Earlier on May 21, the ruling Awami League picked Habibun Nahar as its candidate for contesting the by-polls in the constituency.
The seat fell vacant after Khaleque resigned to contest the Khulna city polls.
