Academic activities of 30 schools are seriously hampered being damaged by a nor'wester that lashed Nilphamari’s Jaldhaka upazila on May 10.
Students at the schools are now compelled to attend classes under the open sky.
Upazila primary and secondary education office sources said 21 primary schools and nine high schools were damaged by the storm. The losses caused by the storm were estimated at Tk61.10 lakh.
Mizanur Rahman, the headmaster of Uttar Bogulagari Masterpara Government Primary School, said all the classrooms of his school were damaged by the storm, which led to severe disruption in academic activities.
Chanchal Kumar Bhowmik, secondary education officer of the upazila, said they have sent a demand letter to the authorities concerned mentioning the damages and losses.
Kajal Kumar Sarker, upazila primary education officer, said a list of damaged schools has also been prepared.
On May 10, seven people were killed as the nor'wester lashed Jaldhaka and Domar upazilas of the district at night.
A number of houses and schools were damaged and trees uprooted in the two upazilas during the storm.
