Awami League mayor candidate for Khuna City Corporation election Talukder Abdul Khaleque has said that the voting in the city polls will be fair and peaceful.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference at the district and city Awami League office on Monday afternoon, he said: “Voting will be held in a peaceful environment. From the morning, people will vote with a festive mood.”
“People want terror and militancy-free election. That is the atmosphere which will prevail in this election. Awami League does not believe in vote engineering, it believes in the people’s will,” he said.
“The people’s will be reflected on May 15,” he added.
Levelling accusations at the contending BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Monju, he said: “Monju is trying to spoil the votes. He will try to ruin the atmosphere by bringing in illegal weapons and criminals. The public will not let this conspiracy happen,” he said.
He urged the police to arrest anyone making incendiary speeches at the polling centres.
“So far all the people police have arrested are accused in cases,” he said
