Youth arrested in Rajshahi for raping seventh grader

A youth has been arrested for kidnapping and raping a seventh grader in Tanore upazila of Rajshahi on Saturday night. Monirul Islam,21, the accused, was arrested after the victim's mother filed a case against him at a local police station. Monirul was produced in front of a court on Sunday afternoon. Monirul had an affair with the victim, and they used to communicate over the phone. Hiding the fact that he was already married, Monirul kidnapped the victim on Friday with promises of marrying her. Later, he took her to a friend's house and raped her. When the victim kept pressuring Monirul for marriage, he started beating her. The victim then called her mother over the phone and asked for help. After her mother informed the police of it, the police arrested Monirul and rescued the victim. Officer In-charge of Tanore police station Rezaul Islam said: "Monirul betrayed the girl after luring her with false promises, then raped her. He also beat her up. "A case has been filed against Monirul on kidnapping and rape charges. The victim has been admitted to the Rajshahi Medical College hospital for treatment," said Rezaul.
