Govt officials to get seven holidays in nine days

Government officials in Bangladesh are going to get seven holidays out of nine days from April 27 to May 5 in this year. According to government officials, April 27 and 28 are weekends, while April 29 is a public holiday for Buddha Purnima. May 1 is also a public holiday, although government officials have to attend office on Monday, April 30. May 1 is a public holiday on account of being International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day or Workers'. May 4 and 5 are also weekends, while May 2 is a government holiday for Shab-e-Barat. An upazila education official of Gazipur district wishing anonymity told the Dhaka Tribune that he has taken holidays on April 30 and May 3 to get nine days holidays in a row. According to bus services, people are buying bus tickets for Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata and Sylhet as these areas are famous for their tourist spots. Mosharaf Hossain, managing director of popular Bangladeshi bus service Hanif Enterprise, said: “All tickets on April 26 have already been sold out.” Demand for air tickets is also very high as holiday makers plan vacations, claimed Kamrul Islam, general manager of Marketing Support and Public Relations at US-Bangla Airlines.
