Jute mill workers block Khulna-Jashore highway over dues

Workers and staff of a closed jute spinning mill have blocked the Khulna-Jashore highway demanding dues. The workers of Jute Spinners took position at the Shiromoni industrial zone and put the barricade at 9am on Thursday, causing huge traffic backups on the highway. The blockade was lifted around 2pm. Abul Kalam Azad, convener of the movement committee, said the management does not pay any heed to the workers’ demands. He said they would launch tougher movements in the coming days. Member secretary of the movement committee Shah Md Monirul Islam said the workers are living in a miserable state as they have no money. Many of them cannot afford the studies of their children.
