A suspected regional leader of an outlawed party has been killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila. The deceased is Kuddus, alias Shagor, 42, a regional commander of “Lal Pataka,” a faction of outlawed “Purba Banglar Communist Party,” hailing from Rajbari, RAB said. Company Commander of RAB 12 and Additional Superintendent of Police Muhaiminul Haque said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in Garai River Char around 4am on Thursday. “Sensing our presence, they opened fire at us.” In retaliation, the members of the elite force fired back, which left Kuddus injured. RAB sources said Assistant Sub-inspector Tahurul Islam and Constable Rashidul Alam were also injured in the incident. Three firearms and 13 bullets have been recovered from the scene, RAB official informed. Kuddus was son of Tarek Ali of Urkanda village in Rajbari district.
