Freedom fighter Hamidul Haque, recipient of the Bir Protik award for his valour in the Liberation War, has been diagnosed with various ailments which have impaired his senses and movement.
74-year-old Hamidul risked his life to liberate the country, and yet in his advanced age, he remains unable to afford medical treatment, slowly wasting away on his bed, unable to move.
As news spread of his condition, Malibagh-based Dr Sirajul Islam Medical College Hospital Ltd has announced it will provide all necessary medical treatment at cost.
Hamidul, a resident of Kochua village in Sakhipur, Tangail, will be brought to Dhaka on Tuesday.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr MA Aziz, also the secretary general of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip), made the announcement when he came to know of Hamidul’s debilitations.
The Sakhipur upazila chairman and other Awami League leaders have expressed their desire to contribute to Hamidul’s treatment.
His ailments include hazy vision, difficulty in hearing and lack of appetite. He can hardly move without assistance. Furthermore, he has been suffering from fever for the past three months.
