Freedom fighter Kakon Bibi laid to rest

Freedom fighter Kakon Bibi, Bir Protik has been laid to rest with state honour following a namaz-e-janaza at Lakshmipur School field Thursday afternoon. She was buried near her village home in Jhirargaon of Doarabazar upazila in Sunamganj. The namaz-e-janaza, which took place around 3pm, was attended by Lakshmipur Deputy Commissioner Md Sabbirul Islam, Superintendent of Police Md Barkatullah, Lakshmipur freedom fighter unit command along with local freedom fighters and villagers. The deputy commissioner, police super, members of district Awami League and Doarabazar upazila Awami League paid tribute to her with floral wreaths. At the funeral, Sabbirul Islam said the government would take all initiatives to keep the memory of Kanon Bibi intact. He also said a library and a Liberation War museum would be established on her name. Doarabazar upazila parishad Chairman Md Idris Ali said the country has lost a brave freedom fighter and people of Sunamganj and the country will always remember her.
