70-year-old moulvi accused of raping 7-year-old

A 70-year-old moulvi has been accused of raping a seven-year-old child in Dohar village under Fulki union in Basail upazila, Tangail. According to locals, on Saturday, the moulvi, named Abu Taleb, lured the child into a maize field saying he would give her Tk40, and then raped her. Hearing the child’s screams, locals rushed to the spot, causing the rapist to flee. Later, though the accused was captured in nearby village Nandar Kumulli, a local influential group helped him escape due to reasons unknown. The child was taken to Basail police station and subsequently moved to Tangail General Hospital for treatment. The accused is a former teacher of Nandar Kumulli High School. The child's father filed a case against the moulvi on Saturday night. Sources at Basail police station said police were on the hunt for the accused.
