Security forces, armed group exchange fire in Bandarban

Members of security forces and a non-state armed group exchanged fire at Galangya union of Thanchi upazila on Thursday. The exchange of fire began at around 12:30am and lasted for near an hour. The members of the armed group eventually fled the scene, leaving behind an AK 47 assault rifle, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 33 Commanding Officer Lt Col Habibur Hasan. Lt Col Habibur said they conducted the drive in the Jaithun hill area after being informed that a group of armed individuals were staying there. “At least three members of the five-strong group were armed,” he added.
