Update : 16 Feb 2018, 10:29 PM
A policeman was shot by muggers in front of a check post at Chittagong city’s Sholoshahar area on Friday. Severely wounded, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Malek was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. The incident took place at around 4:00pm, when the police officer asked two motorcycle riders to stop at the check post. The motorcycle rider opened fire at the police and fled, but the other rider was detained at the location, confirmed Panchlaish police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohiuddin Mahmud. “We are conducting drives to arrest others involved in the assault. It seems that an organized mugging gang was responsible,” the OC said. However, the police officer could not confirm the number of attackers or how many rounds were fired. ASI Alauddin Talukder of CMCH police outpost told the Dhaka Tribune that the bullet hit the injured policeman two inches above his right knee.
