Fire at dried fish market

Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters’ Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Jasim Uddin told Dhaka Tribune: “The fire originated from a kitchen oven of a shanty located beside the dried fish market at around 9:45am and soon spread to the four dried fish warehouses of the market and eight thatched houses.” “On information, fire fighters along with four units rushed to the spot and doused the flame at around 1:00pm after three-hour frantic efforts,” added the fire service DAD. “Though the fire was massive but the fire fighters were able to control it and minimized the amount of losses”, told DAD Jasim to Dhaka Tribune adding that the extended of losses could yet to be ascertained immediately. Farid Ahmed, GS of Asadganj Dried Fish Merchant Association, said Dhaka Tribune: “There are 50 dried fish warehouses and around 250 dried fish shops in the market while four storerooms of dried fish were gutted in the fire incident burning around Tk 50 lakhs’ dried fish into ashes.” “Apart from that dried fish worth Tk one crore were also damaged because of water during dousing the fire”, added Farid.
