Myanmar’s BGP opens fire on Bangladeshi fishermen in Teknaf

Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) has opened fire on Bangladeshi fishermen in the Naf River of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. One Bangladeshi fisherman identified as Nurul Islam, has been shot and injured. The incident occurred near the Kanjarpara area around 8am on Saturday. The injured fisherman, Nurul has been admitted to the Kutupalong MSF Hospital in Ukhiya. The BGP had also abducted five fishermen, but they were released to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) around 2:20pm. The fishermen are-- Aziz Ullah, Yar Mahmud, Shah Alam, Md Rafiq, Pethan Ali. Confirming the Dhaka Tribune that such an occurrence took place, Commander of the 2nd battalion of BGB in Teknaf, Lt Col SM Ariful Islam said: “The fishermen that were abducted in the morning, are residents of the Whykong Union of Teknaf.”
