A mobile court has sentenced six people to two months' imprisonment each for illegally lifting up stones from the Dahuk River in Tetulia upazila, Panchagarh.
It was discovered during a joint drive by police and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on Wednesday that those six men were involved in lifting stones using dredger machines, which had obstructed the water flow in the river at Rawshonpur area in Shalbonhat union of the upazila.
Later in the afternoon, the mobile court of Tetulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Saniul Ferdous had ordered the punishment, said Tetulia police station Officer-in-Charge Md Johurul Islam.
The convicts also include Kamruzzaman Kamu, former chairman of Buraburi Union Parishad in the upazila.
