A mobile court has detained two members of a syndicate in connection with the forging of land deeds and documents acquired for the Dohazari-Ghumdhum rail line project in Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
Cox's Bazar Sadar Model police station Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua told the Dhaka Tribune that a syndicate was trying to realize compensation from the district's deputy commissioner's office by falsely claiming ownership of the lands through the papers.
On receiving the information, the district's Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Noman conducted mobile court drives at different locations of the Sadar union and seized three sacks of forged land deeds and documents on Tuesday.
The mobile court also detained Towhidul Islam, 37, and Nurul Islam, 35, from a shop in connection with the forgery.
Bulbul Akhter, a member of Cox's Bazar Sadar Union Parishad (UP), alleged that the syndicate had long been forging inheritance certificates and seals of the UP chairman and members, as well as land deeds.
“We demand that all members of this fraud gang be held,” she said.
OC Ranjit Kumar said a case would soon be filed regarding the forgery.
